A talent beyond compare, and a sense of style that teases and tantalizes the eyes. Bronwen Fullington is an amazing artist that you must see.
My maternal grandmother was a very accomplished needlewoman who died before I was born. My mother passed those skills to me, though she didn’t share the passion. From my father’s sister Gertrude, I inherited my “gypsy” sensibility, a love for clothing, costume and jewelry.
While I learned to knit and embroider as a child, I immersed myself in hand-spinning and natural dyeing around 1980. This led to a passion for knitwear; in 1987, I began to design and market machine knit clothing and accessories. wholesaled my work and sold through craft cooperatives.
In 1995 I started branching out into mixed media – “spirit figures’ with polymer clay faces and hands and Thai silk bodies, polymer clay jewelry, and “digital deities”, computer manipulated images from spiritual traditions around the world – these first appeared on t-shirts, and later became a line of greeting cards.
Recently, I have been exploring tapestry weaving and producing knitted figures with painted polymer faces and other adornments.
My work reflects my love of whimsy and color, and deep connection with world folk and spiritual traditions, whether expressed in mixed media art dolls, through digital photography, or in knitting and weaving with handmade yarns
